FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS
Are
the ARV
medications available to the HIV Positive children at the AHOPE
Ethiopia
children’s homes?
Yes, the World Wide Orphan
Foundation’s Barlow Clinic in Addis Ababa is providing overall medical
care and
the ARV “cocktails”. A link to the World Wide Orphan Foundation website
is
located on our home page. AHOPE Ethiopia has a nurse on staff to
monitor the
day-to-day health issues of the children.
How
can I adopt an Ethiopian Orphan?
Adoption Advocates
International provides
adoption services for eligible healthy and HIV positive orphans in
Ethiopia.
May I donate supplies or send gifts for
the children?
Ethiopia is a land-locked country so shipping
is very expensive. There
are customs duties on imported goods, including items for charity, and
shipped
items are often lost or may be refused entry at customs. At
present, all
supplies that are sent to AHOPE Ethiopia travel
in the luggage of staff or friends. We are
working with our
affiliates in Ethiopia to expand shipping possibilities.
What types of supplies are needed?
Because it
is so difficult to ship and we have limited storage space at our
office, we ask
that persons contact the office before making donations. We do have a
changing
list of items most urgently needed.
Are there volunteer
opportunities at AHOPE Ethiopia?
Volunteer workers are welcome. Please contact the AHOPE for Children office
for further information on guidelines and opportunities.
What portion of my donation
actually goes to benefit the
children?
AHOPE for
Children is staffed entirely by volunteers and the office space is
donated. Aside from some basic expenses
such as telephone bills, office supplies, printing, and postage, there
is no
overhead. In 2004, the cost of operation
was about two percent of total donations. We are determined to see that
most of
your donation dollar benefits the orphans in Ethiopia.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes, AHOPE for Children is a
nonprofit corporation registered in the State of Washington and
recognized by
the IRS as a tax-deductible charity. A
receipt is sent for every contribution for us in the donor’s tax return.
I would like to give a
donation in memory of a loved
on/in honor of a birthday/as a meaningful holiday gift.
How do I do that?
We can
send acknowledgements, greetings or whatever is appropriate. Contact the office for details.
Are
AHOPE Ethiopia and AHOPE for Children the same
organization?
No, AHOPE
Ethiopia is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) administered locally
by
Ethiopians. AHOPE for Children is a
United States charity licensed in the State of Washington.
The main purpose of AHOPE for Children at this
time is to provide funding for AHOPE Ethiopia.
